Meet the Band: Sofia Ajram

July 12, 2023

This week Weird Little Worlds is welcoming the multi-talented Sofia Ajram to the Weird Team. They will be contributing a fabulous new story to Playlist of the Damned entitled, “The BrazenBull.” We can’t wait for you to read it!

Sofia Ajram is a multidisciplinary artist based in Montreal.

Growing up, their mom was a translator, and her collection of Russian and French literature, including The Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov created a love for the written word.  They cultivated a strong interest in horror and sci-fi cinema and literature and applied those interests to the several facets of visual arts. They earned Bachelor’s degrees in Gender, Sexuality, Feminist, and Social Justice Studies and East Asian Studies from McGill University.

Sofia Ajram is the Canadian Arts and Fashion Award-winning Designer of Sofia Zakia jewelry. Sofia strives to join the quiet intimacy and elegance of jewelry with the magic of storytelling: narratives that emerge from myths, cultures, and stories, both new and old; universal and personal.

Prior publications include The Arborglyph in the anthology Lost Contact. Their latest project, Bury Your Gays: An Anthology of Tragic Queer Horror (serving as Editor) releases April 2024. When they’re not writing, they can be found goldsmithing at Sofia Zakia or moderating the Horror and Horror Lit forums on Reddit and giving lectures on contemporary horror films at Monstrum Montreal. You can find them on Twitter @sofiaajram.
